By using Mom’s Basement University you agree to what follows. It is short, and none of it is a surprise.

An unofficial, free educational resource about mathematics, written for adults.

It is not an accredited educational institution. Despite the name, it is not a university, it is not affiliated with any university, and it does not grant degrees, diplomas, certificates, course credit, continuing education units or transcripts. Completing lessons here confers no formal qualification of any kind. The “University” in the name is a joke about basements.

If you need a credential, you need an accredited institution. This site may help you pass their exams; it cannot replace them.

The content is provided “as is”. We work hard to keep the mathematics correct — figures are generated from computed values so a diagram cannot silently disagree with the text beside it — but we make no warranty that any lesson, worked example, quiz answer or figure is free of errors.

Do not rely on this site as the sole source for anything consequential: an exam you are graded on, a professional decision, engineering, financial or medical work. Verify against a textbook or a person who is accountable to you.

If you find a mistake, please report it to echoesOTV@gmail.com. Corrections are welcome and get made.

Please do not:

• attempt to break, overload, probe or gain unauthorised access to the site, its authentication, or other people’s accounts
• scrape the site at a rate that degrades it for other readers
• republish substantial portions of the lessons as your own work
• use the site to distribute malware, spam or unlawful material

We may withdraw access for any of the above.

Accounts are optional and exist only to sync progress between devices. You are responsible for keeping your sign-in details to yourself. You may ask for deletion at any time — see the Privacy Policy.

The lessons are openly licensed. Full detail, including the attribution line you can copy, is on the License page; this is the same thing in the place people look for it.

• Lesson text, worked examples, figures and diagrams are licensed CC BY 4.0. Copy, print, translate, remix and redistribute them, including commercially, provided you credit the site and indicate any changes.
• Code samples printed inside lessons are licensed MIT.
• The name “Mom’s Basement University”, the logo and the mascot are reserved and are not covered by either license. Do not use them in a way that implies this site endorses, sponsors or accredits what you are doing.

Teachers, tutors and programs may use, print, assign and share the lessons with attribution. No fee, and no written permission required — that is the point of the license, and asking first is not necessary for ordinary classroom or program use.

What is still not allowed is presenting the work as your own: stripping the attribution, republishing it under a different author, or adding legal or technical restrictions that prevent others from doing what the license permits.

Mathematics itself belongs to nobody. Theorems, definitions and standard results are not claimed here — only the particular explanations, figures and code used to present them.

The site links to external resources. We do not control and are not responsible for external sites or their content. The site carries no advertising - see the Privacy Policy for what it does and does not collect.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Mom’s Basement University and its operators are not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential loss arising from use of the site, including losses resulting from errors in the content or from the site being unavailable.

This is a free site run on a budget. It may go offline, change, lose features or stop being updated, without notice and without obligation.

These terms may change. The current version is always the one on this page, and continued use after a change means you accept it.
